juxtapostion
May 8, 2008 by iamsimona few illustrations using two random bits of text as starting points and juxtaposing elements.
one excerpt was used as a point of reference for the imagery and the other used as accompanying text.
i think they work well and create interesting relationships. The two random elements form their own strange narrative quite removed from their original context.

exhibition pics, news, mailing lists, yeah!
May 1, 2008 by iamsimonhello all,
firstly a big thank you to all that have been down to ONCE UPON A TIME…. at Off the Kerb gallery and checked out both my work and that of the 15 other artists involved. the show has turned out really well, with a really diverse range of works on display.
my submission was a wall painting, the piece highlights the sinister underbelly of children’s fairy-tales. through the exploration of childhood narrative, a dark and forbidden world emerges. behind tales of frivolous fancy and carefree adventures lurks ghastly acts and terrible happenings…
here is a couple of pics I took whilst putting it up.
I drew up the children with charcoal on paper
before painting them onto the wall
sketching it out onto the wall
the painting begins…
and finally some of the finished product from various positions in the room.
the final product
ok that’s it for now.
peas.

Once Upon A Time…
Off The Kerb Gallery & Studios First Birthday Show.
“The exhibition, Once Upon a Time, brings together an array of artists that sample from childhood storybooks and fantasy films to form new and inverted versions of the original narrative.
As one looks back on these tales’ with an adult view, the innocent beliefs and imagination that the child once held become distorted and takes on a more sinister and uneasy image.”
It’s a group show involving 16 artists, works include a life-size play house, cardboard dioramas, animation, sculpture, photography and a wall to ceiling painting(which I am doing).
It’s curated by Felicity Lanthome
The show runs from
Opening night Friday 25th 6pm-9pm
Saturday 26th April – Friday 23rd May

this will most likely never ever happen
March 20, 2008 by iamsimon“Got rid of death?!
What do you mean you got rid of death?”
“Well, we got rid of it. It was all a bit of a drag really, don’t you think?”
“How?”
“Simple, just inject this brocolli and sunscreen mixture into you’re left pinky finger and you’re cured of death.”
“Really? That’s it?”
“Yes.”
“Oh…
well, then what happens at The End then? Is there an End any more?”
“The End? Oh, well, we aren’t entirely sure. But, I think its highly likely people will live a normal life until around the age of 500 years old then turn into a creature somewhat resembling Gene Simmons’ tongue.”
“You’re drunk aren’t you?”
“Absolutely. “
